Sample library and virtual instrument gurus EastWest have announced the upcoming release of a new virtual drum instrument that combines a wealth of drum samples with exclusive groove programming by legendary hitmaker Jimmy Jam.
DrumX is set for general release on 27 April 2026, but will be available to ComposerCloud+ subscribers from 27 March. The new instrument captures the sounds of 10 legendary drum machines, including Roland’s TR-808 and TR-909; the Roger Linn LinnDrum and LM-1; and the E-mu SP-12. An array of built-in sound-shaping tools are provided, along with a powerful step sequencer and a Groove Engine that includes hundreds of exclusive patterns programmed by Jimmy Jam, one half of the iconic Jam & Lewis duo behind 42 Billboard No.1 hits.
“Groove is what makes people move. With DrumX, producers can start with rhythms that already feel great and then take them somewhere completely new. This is the only place you’ll find my grooves in software — it’s an exclusive collaboration with EastWest.” - Jimmy Jam
