New book covering open-source software

Linux, Ardour and more...
Daniel James, sometime SOS author and director of 64 Studio Ltd, has released a new book: Crafting Digital Media. Focusing on using open-source software, the book also details how to configure Ubuntu GNU and Linux for creative applications, such as audio production.

Open-source software is currently gaining popularity, and even Harrison’s recent Mixbus software was based on Ardour, which is one of the packages covered in the book. Other open-source audio applications covered in the book include the audio editor Audacity, and the Mixxx digital DJ’ing system.

64 Studio Ltd produce custom distributions of Linux aimed at creative users, and recently worked with Trinity Audio Group to create Indamixx, a portable DAW and Dj’ing system that can be run from a USB pen drive.

Crafting Digital Media is available from Amazon for around $27.
