Sound Particles launch AudioMatrix utility plug-in

Flexible I/O channel routing solution

Sound Particles AudioMatrix channel input output routing plug-in immersive surround stereo downmix upmix

The latest plug-in from Sound Particles offers a quick and simple way to change a DAW track's channel routings. AudioMatrix supports up to 64 channels of audio, allowing any input to be routed to any output with a selection of helpful configuration options.

Despite its simplicity, the plug-in promises to be a useful addition to any engineers toolkit, whether they’re working in stereo, surround or high channel-count immersive audio formats. Signals can be routed directly between inputs and outputs with no changes, or can have gain (-3dB, -6dB or custom values) or polarity changes applied, opening up a whole range of use cases.

Some of the suggested uses include speaker management changes — reproducing a 5.1 mix in a 7.1 mix room, for example — or temporarily routing any signal to the centre channel for fine-tuning when working with immersive content. Swapping sounds from left to right can be achieved quickly for all channel formats, as well as summing whole mixes, or parts of them, to mono. Due to the inclusion of polarity controls, it is possible to convert signals from stereo to mid-side, or vice versa.

Basic upmixing and downmixing can be achieved, along with conversion between different formats that utilise the same number of channels but in a different order — converting from 5.1 Film to 5.1 SMPTE, for example. The plug-in can also be used to manage LFE and subwoofer signals in the absence of a bass management system.

AudioMatrix is supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.13 or later. VST3, AUv2, AUv3 and AAX plug-in versions are available.
