SoundGhost introduce Cascade

Instrument inspired by rainfall and wind chimes

SoundGhost Cascade virtual instrument

The latest addition to the SoundGhost line-up is a virtual instrument which the company say has been inspired by rainfall and wind chimes. Cascade comes loaded with 100 acoustic sound sources and creates its unique sound using randomly overdubbed, arhythmic notes tuned to a single pitch.

The instrument relies on a combination SoundGhost’s Jumble engine and a newly developed Submerge shimmer reverb processor, bringing together key elements from some of their most popular plug-ins. There are two layers, each of which host a collection of textures made up of a mixture of acoustic and electronic instrument samples. The layers can be blended together and processed to arrive at new sounds, and there’s a randomise function that makes it possible to select new pairs of layers at the click of a button.

Amp and filter sections follow, housing an ADSR envelope that is applied to each layer and both high- and low-pass filters for removing unwanted frequencies. The bottom of the GUI is occupied by the Submerge processor, a granular reverb that the company say can be thought of as a combination of their Cloud and Scatter offerings but with some additional features. Its three main controls are Sub (a sub-octave generator), Reverse and Mix, and there’s a set of additional parameters (Flutter, Damping, Feedback and Decay) that offer some fine-tuning of the resulting reverb effect.

Compatibility

Cascade is supported on PCs running Windows 8 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.12 and higher. VST3 and AU plug-in versions are available. Note that there is no AAX version, meaning Pro Tools is not supported.

Pricing & Availability

Cascade is available now, and is currently (19 August 2024) being offered at an introductory price of £39, reduced from its full cost of £49. Prices include VAT.
