Solid Cables

The best in the world?
Solid Cables were founded by Nial McGaughey, after his supposedly high-end cable failed mid-song during a live gig. Following discussions with his colleagues, he surmised that no single manufacturer was making top-quality, robust cables that give the clarity and reliability needed on tour, so he set about making his own.

Currently, there are two products in Solid Cables’ range. The Dynamic Arc Ultra is, according to the company, “designed to be the toughest, best-sounding cable in the world”, and its specification is fittingly impressive.

It’s got a three-stage strain relief, tear-resistant outer coating, and ‘aerospace-quality’ oxygen-free copper conductor. Contacts are cleaned using ‘audiophile-grade’ metal preservative, and hand-soldered using silver-alloy solder. All this means that the Dynamic Arc Ultra transfers what Solid Cables call “exceptional bass tone, and increased accurate articulation in the upper frequency ranges”. It’s available in two colours: deep red or black.

The second Solid Cables product is the Dynamic Arc Beta, which is designed to deliver smooth low-end tones that suit jazz-style electric guitars and dub and reggae bass instruments. It features a helical-wound spiral shielding and a polymer-suspended carbon insulator. It's made in the same way at the Ultra, and has the same strain relief and outer armour.

In the UK, they’re available from Jam Guitars, where a 12-foot Dynamic Arc Ultra costs £90 and a 21-foot version is £120. They’d better be good!
