Fathom from Zero-G

Latest Kontakt instrument announced

Zero G Fathom dystopian cinematic sound design Kontakt instrument

Designed with “dystopian sound design” in mind, the latest addition to Zero-G’s growing collection of Kontakt instruments promises to deliver a world of “gritty textures, corruped atmospheres, brooding pulses and fractured tonal elements.”

Fathom has been designed by electronic music guru Si Begg, and comes housed in a slick GUI that aims to combine intutive control with experimental sound-design techniques. Over 270 sampled sounds are included, and can be spread across three layers that each feature their own dedicated sound-shaping sections; as well as blending the layers together, the instrument also allows users to assign key ranges to each layer to create keyboard split zones — it’s also possible for the zones to overlap.

An array of presets are included, covering everything from cinematic soundscapes to mechanical drones and tension-filled sequences. Check out the video below to hear it in action.

Compatibility

Fathom runs in Native Instruments Kontakt — it will not run in the free Kontakt Player — and requires version 8.6 or higher, which is supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 13 or higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, along with a standalone application.

Pricing & Availability

Fathom is available now, and is being offered at an introductory price of $47.95£42.95 until 8 January 2025, when it will increase to its full cost of $59.95£53.95. Prices include VAT.
