Well, I can only go on someone who has an original grey-face 2600, and now has played a Behringer 2600. He says they sound as near as two originals.

They can't, unless the ladder filter was copied and that would be an issue with Moog. What made the Grey so unique was the ladder filter. A buggy bastard though.

Interesting. I do think that Korg have priced it slightly high, but it does offer an alternative for those who despair at Behringer's business practices. Which can't be bad.

Behringer have switchably added both filter variants to their 2600 - the Moog-infringed (cased in resin!) ladder 4012 and the later ARP 4072 design.

The B2600 is supposedly based on the Blue Meanie, i.e. the original 2600, Rob wanted to make a 2600 that ARP couldn't continue making at the time because the parts were too unreliable, something that is no longer an issue.

I saw someone on the internet who, talking about the Beh Monopoly, said it’s close enough, which I have to agree with, especially seeing as the originals of these instruments varied from example to example and from batch to batch and from year to year etc ad infinitum.

Me, I would love to see a Karp Sequencer, preferably full size please Mr.Korg. Or it’s Antonus for me.

I guess it depends on what you want it to do... for me, the most distinctive thing about the 2600(I had an ex Genesis Grey face one back in the 90's) is the "Thwappyness(tm)" of the envelopes..
I haven't heard that character from what I've heard and that, for me is the primary reason for wanting a 2600 again..

When I can hear it for myself I'll let you know. From what little I can tell it sounds like a 2600 to me (that's not saying much from a few YouTube videos, admittedly), and it certainly sounds like a 2600 according to my contact who now owns both it and an original.

We used to have a grey 2600 in the studio back in the 80s. I didn't use it much, but it was fun to fool around with from time to time. TBH I never really 'got it', and was more content to use my MiniMoog or Pro-One for most monosynth jobs. Things finally clicked when I got an Odyssey, so the 'ARP way' now makes more sense!

I see no reason why this copy shouldn't exhibit the same characteristics as the original, but I could forgive it a lot for the price anyway. We'll see.

At the time I upgraded my Leak Stereo 70 to a Quad 33/303 set-up, but that advert back fired on Quad in my experience, as a lot of young people I spoke to, and people I know now, have said that they deliberately avoided Quad because of the respectable bearded pipe smoking gent in the armchair, they didn’t want to be perceived as being that type of person, a bit of a PR blunder maybe.
But I was OK, at seventeen I was wearing a herringbone jacket with leather elbow pads.

Quad was expensive stuff... few young people could afford it anyway. Their market was (and largely still is) the more mature hi-fi nutter.
