Break In The City: Fri 27th — Tues 31st October

Free education days, live music and club nights
The Band Agency and In The City are holding an event for aspiring artists and managers — and anyone else interested in breaking into the music industry — in Manchester between the 27th and 31st October.

Break In The City, in its fourth year, will host one of the UK’s largest free events for new and unsigned artists, with an education day of seminars, one-on-ones and an open-mic stage, plus numerous live industry showcases, club nights, and demo-in-a-limo sessions.

BITC is an official partner event of the In The City International Music Convention (www.inthecity.co.uk), run in conjunction with The Band Agency.

The highlight of the show will be a day-long event, on Saturday 28th October. Here's the schedule:

Radio 1's Open-mic stage: Last year, ‘Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly’ was discovered, he’s since been signed to Atlantic.

Music Mart's Musical Chairs: You’ve heard of speed-dating, well now you can speed-network. For three hours, Music Mart’s Musical Chairs will see us host a mammoth one-on-one Q&A session so you, the band, can pick the brains of an array of music industry insiders.

Here’s the deal: we fill a room with music industry experts, from A&R to live sound know-it-alls, media maestros to cunning management, production whizzes and much more besides. Each expert has their own mini-stand from which to solve your queries, while the DJ pumps out the finest new music in the background. You’ve got 15 minutes to ask as many questions as you possibly can before the music stops and you move on. Jam-packed full of all the sharpest tips and tactics to get your band noticed.

Over the course of the five-day event, there will be live shows from over 150 acts. From all-nighters with Stylish Riots, to over 100 acts with Glasswerk and Vman at The Dry Bar Festival, to the launch of Channel 4 Radio and SlashMusic showcase at M2 nightclub, featuring the first ever live DJ set from Tom Ravenscroft.

Previous acts that have played stages at Break In The City include: The Subways, Mystery Jets, Liam Frost, The Long Blondes, Boy Kill Boy.
