Dachman Audio offer a range of capsules designed to help DIY users build their own microphones influenced by the sounds of classic vintage models, as well as manufacturing the DA 87i, a recreation of an early Neumann U87 that employs their own version of the K87 capsule. Their most recent release, the DA 87SE, aims to provide users with the same sound, but with a reduced feature set and a much lower price point.
Described as a true U87 reproduction with no additional frills, the microphone is equipped with the company’s own DA-K87SE capsule, and features a fixed cardioid pattern (the original DA 87i is multi-pattern model and offers cardioid, omnidirectional and figure-of-eight modes).
Despite the reduced cost, the company say that this version still utilises high-quality components throughout, and achieves the lower price point by omitting the additional switches and circuitry required to provide features such as switchable patterns, a high-pass filter, and a 10dB pad function. A custom output transformer designed specifically for the DA 87i and DA 87SE circuits is present, which the company say delivers exceptional bandwidth whilst exhibiting low phase shift.
The microphone comes supplied with a leather pouch and hard swivel mount, and is covered by a one-year limited warranty and 30-day money back guarantee.
