DrumSynth is the latest software instrument to be released by AIR Music Technology, and is based on the engine of the same name released for MPC Standalone. The instrument allows sounds to be designed from scratch, with a multitude of onboard effects and processors helping to create unique custom drum and percussion hits.
DrumSynth is centred around a multi-synth sound generator, combining FM, analogue and physical modelling synthesis algorithms which power eight independent sound engines: Kick, Snare, Clap, Hi-Hat, Tom, Percussion, Crash and Ride. Each of the engines is equipped with its own set of dedicated parameters which provide control over settings such as tuning, hold and decay, velocity, and noise source levels.
Once the hit itself has been created, Drumsynth offers a range of other processes to manipulate and fine-tune each sound. A transient shaper equipped with Attack, Shape and Sustain knobs provides deeper control over the sound’s envelope, and a distortion effect with build-in low-pass filtering and parallel processing capabilities allows users to push their sounds into overdrive.
A four-band equaliser is present, with its high- and low-mid bands providing adjustable Q, and some compression is also available, with the section allowing users to define the processors threshold, ratio, attack and make-up gain settings. Alongside the dynamics and EQ processing, there are also some time-based effects on offer, with diffuser and reverb processors joined by a delay with a resonant filter section.
DrumSynth is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or 11, and Macs running macOS 11.7 up to 13.2. VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available, and the instrument requires a minimum 2GB of free disk space, or 20GB for those wishing to utilise all of the content.
