AIR Music Tech overhaul TimewARP 2600

ARP 2600 emulation updated & improved

AIR Music Tech TimewARP 2600 ARP analogue modular synthesizer emulation plug-in

The original TimewARP 2600 is the only software recreation of an ARP 2600 to be officially endorsed by Alan R Pearlman, the inventor behind the iconic synthesizer. Now, AIR Music Tech have re-released it with a whole host of new features that bring the classic sound into the modern era.

The company say that the latest iteration of the instrument goes beyond basic replication, employing advanced digital modelling and delivering additional features not present in the original hardware such as eight-voice polyphony and, of course, patch memory. Despite the upgrades, it still promises to retain the character that made the original instrument so popular, and accurately reproduces its sound partly thanks to contributions from those who were involved in the development of the ARP hardware.

It boasts a three-oscillator design, with each modelled VCO capable of generating audio band and low-frequency signals, while a self-oscillating resonant low-pass filter provides both audio filtering and low-frequency control modulation. There are two envelope generators (one ADSR, one AR ), an evelope follower, along with a VCA section equipped with two audio inputs, one linear control input and one exponsntial control input. A noise generator and ring modulator are present, and are joined by a sample and hold function that can be driven by an internal or external signal, or configured to follow MIDI Clock. There’s also a built-in stereo reverb effect.
