Soundghost’s latest effects plug-in has just arrived, delivering a cassette-inspired delay effect that promises to blend lo-fi charm with “unpredictable sonic movement”. EKKO is capable of producing everything from warm, saturated echoes to warped, chaotic reflections, and also has some extra tricks up its sleeve thanks to an innovative Scramble feature.
Presented in the company’s signature stripped-back GUI, the plug-in is equipped with all of the functionality you’d expect to find in a delay, along with a dedicated set of tape emulation tools and a ping-pong control that provides users with control over the way in which the resulting effect is panned across the stereo field. What Soundghost hope will set it apart from the competition, though, is the inclusion of a function referred to as Scramble. This unique control has been inspired by the company’s Jumble sampler, and works by applying random shifts to the delay playhead to create “fragmented rhythms and scattered ambient trails”.
