The latest arrival to SoundGhost’s range of software instruments blends together two layers of waveforms sampled from analogue and digital sources with a layer of shifting noise textures, creating continually evolving soundscapes that promise to breathe some life into electronic productions.
Signa’s three layers are presented to the user as three rectangular shapes in the instrument’s GUI, and each draw from a collection of 100 waveforms — or noise-based recordings, in the case of the third layer. A set of random modulators inspired by modular synthesis then create a sense of motion by introducing some subtle fluctuations to each layer’s pan and volume parameters; a set of controls allow users to govern the intensity of the effect, allowing them to craft everything from slow undulations to tape flutter-inspired effects.
The instrument also features a Rescan button that’s been designed to make quick work of generating new ideas. Hitting the button will cause all three layers to be replaced with a new combination of sounds while leaving the filter, envelope and modulation settings untouched, making it possible to try out new ideas without losing the overall feel of the patch.
