Fab Factory Studios have announced the addition of a newly remodelled state-of-the-art live room at their North Hollywood location. Named Melody A, the new room has already hosted a number of sessions prior to its official announcement, with composer Mark Isham recording for the hit TV show ‘The Cleaning Lady’, and a selection of band sessions taking place for Sting and a number of other artists.

New Live Room

Melody A is a spacious, fully treated room capable of hosting more than 20 musicians, with the large main area complemented by three isolation booths. A total of 56 mic tie lines serve the space along with multiple Cat 5 lines that support the studio’s video and Aviom Cue systems. It also houses an enviable selection of gear and instruments, including mics from Telefunken, AKG, Royer, Neumann, Shure, Lewitt, beyerdynamic and more, amps from Orange, Ampeg and Vox, and a stunning 1969 Steinway Model D grand piano.

Control Room

The adjoining control room is equally well specified, with a 40 channel SSL 4000E console paired up with 48 channels of Lynx conversion and monitoring taken care of by PMC 8-2 XBD and Focal Alpha 65 systems. There’s no shortage of outboard either, with a whole host of sought-after gear including Neve 5052s, a Bricasti M7, two Empirical Labs EL8 Distressors, a Tube-Tech CL1B, and a stereo pair of 1176s and an LA-2A from Universal Audio to name but a few — there’s even an EMT 140 plate reverb unit!

“The investment we’ve made into Melody A was in response to requests from our longtime clients who were looking for a top live room where they could record orchestration projects at the same facility where they’re already working. The feedback we’ve been getting from current clients and producers and engineers in the industry has been amazing and we’re excited to host new projects in this incredible room.” - Shaun Fabos, President and Chief Operating Officer, Fab Factory Studios

The new room is the latest addition to a huge complex that features 12 separate studios, a large dance studio and a dedicated event space. It also proudly hosts Girls Make Beats, a non-profit organisation that aims to empower women and expand the female presence of music producers, DJs and audio engineers.
