The latest addition to SSL’s growing range of plug-ins brings multi-band operation to their iconic G-Series bus compressor. G3 MultiBusComp offers three independent bands of compression with variable 4K-inspired drive sections, along with a range of useful side-chain routing and processing options.
The plug-in aims to deliver the classic ‘glue’ compression that the G-Series design is renowned for, but with the added versatility provided by multi-band processing. Low, Mid and High bands with a full set of completely independent parameters are provided, and are each equipped with a bar graph display that provide an intuitive way to precisely configure the crossovers whilst providing a visual indication of the band’s threshold placement. All three bands also benefit from an adjustable drive feature which emulates the company’s 4K circuitry, allowing users to apply some saturation to specific frequency ranges.
G3 also offers some useful side-chain processing functionality. Filters allow the side-chain signals to be processed in order to affect the compressor section’s response to certain frequencies, and it is also possible to unlink the filters from the band’s crossover in order to drive the dynamics processing from a different frequency band. External side-chain inputs are also supported, allowing compression to be triggered by a completely different signal if required.
Solo and bypass buttons for each band make it easy to audition exactly what the plug-in is doing to each frequency range and fine-tune it accordingly, and a parameter link function provides a simple way to apply inverse changes to pairs of parameters — decreasing a band’s threshold whilst increasing its make-up gain, for example.
Compatibility
G3 MultiBusComp is supported on PCs running Windows 7 and higher, and Macs running macOS 10.10 and above. It is available in AU, VST2, VST3 and AAX formats.
