Bitwig have announced that the audio interface they revealed at this year’s NAMM Show is now available to order. The Bitwig Connect 4/12 marks the company’s first foray into hardware, and offers an all-in-one solution that combines audio, MIDI and CV I/O with monitoring and DAW control functions.
Housed in a compact desktop enclosure, the interface features a large touch-sensitive encoder that offers control over its input gain and output levels, as well as providing hands-on control over Bitwig Studio’s playhead and any of its parameters; a surrounding LED ring provides a visual indication of parameter values and automation data. The encoder is joined by a trio of buttons that provide mono and dim monitoring functions, along with the ability to switch between two pairs of monitors. Along the bottom of the panel you’ll find a trio of dedicated transport buttons and a set of six buttons that dictate which input, output or software function the encoder is assigned to.
As its name suggests, the interface features four inputs and 12 outputs. The first input channel is equipped with a preamp and will accept mic, instrument or line-level inputs via a rear-panel XLR/TRS combo socket, while the second accepts either line-level or instrument signals via quarter-inch TRS. A set of six balanced line-level outputs are provided on quarter-inch TRS sockets, with a seventh offering a stereo headphone output. MIDI I/O is provided by a pair of 3.5mm TRS connectors. The remaining I/O — two inputs and four outputs — can be found on a set of 3.5mm sockets on the top panel. All six are DC-coupled, allowing them to be used to pass CV signals to and from external instruments and effects as well as functioning as additional line-level connections.
