HOFA-Plugins have announced the release of an updated version of their mastering limiter plug-in. IQ-Series Limiter V2 boasts a new user-friendly interface packed with a range of additional features including three new limiting algorithms, LUFS metering and a new time chart display.
The original version’s Fast, Med and Slow algorithms are still present, but are joined by three new modes that offer a wider range of sound characters. A Transparent mode aims to offer a clean sound that restricts loudness in favour of avoiding distortion, whilst a Hard mode applies heavier processing that maximises loudness, and is said to provide a ‘punchy’ sound when used on sources with strong transients. An Electronic mode, as its name suggests, provides an algorithm that has been optimised for bass-heavy electronic music, and aims to provide maximum impact without introducing artefacts.
An XY pad combines Clip and Pump parameters into a single, intuitive control, making it possible to adjust the sound of the limiter without needing to dive into detailed settings. HOFA say that it is possible to achieve a wide range of sound characters with the control, from perfectly transparent limiting to the far more aggressive ‘pumping’ sounds and everything in between.
The plug-in built-in metering has been extended to offer short-term and integrated LUFS measurements as well as loudness range and true peak values. A time chart display has also been added, providing users with the ability to analyse the processor’s input and output levels, gain reduction and short-term loudness values over time.
The upgrade also introduces features such as up to 32x oversampling, a DC Cut feature, new dither options, a side-chain input facility and adjustable channel linking options.
Compatibility
IQ-Series Limiter V2 is supported on PCs running Windows 7 and above, and Macs running macOS 10.10 or higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
