iZotope’s latest release kits out their renowned mastering plug-in suite with some powerful new modules, as well as improving and enhancing some of its existing features. Ozone 12 includes a trio of new additions: Stem EQ, Bass Control and Unlimiter, as well as benefitting from a more flexible and configurable Master Assistant feature, and a new transparent limiting algorithm for the much-loved Maximizer module.
New Modules
The headline feature of Ozone 12 is the inclusion of three new modules. Here’s a quick overview of what each of the latest offerings bring to the table:
- Stem EQ: As its name suggests, the plug-in combines stem separation with traditional EQ. Users are able to apply separate EQ curves to Vocals, Drums, Bass and Instruments groups within a stereo audio file, eliminating the need for tedious mix edits.
- Bass Control: a machine-learning-powered module that refines low-end frequencies, ensuring masters hit hard in any listening environment.
- Unlimiter: Another machine-learning-based processor that’s capable of reviving overly compressed audio, restoring lost transients and dynamic range.
Master Assistant & Maximizer
Other standout features of the update include an overhaul of the plug-ins Master Assistant system and a new limiting algorithm. Ozone’s AI-powered Master Assistant function now allows users to customise its settings, offering a choice of which processing modules are utilised or left bypassed, as well as offering options for LUFS target levels and a wider selection of genres.
The Maximizer module has been treated to an update, too, and now features a new IRC 5 limiting algorithm that promises to deliver outstanding loudness and clarity while avoiding the usual ‘pumping’ and distortion trade-offs.
Music Production Suite 8
iZotope’s flagship bundle has also been updated to include Ozone 12 Advanced and all five of the company’s Catalyst Series products: FXEQ, Velvet, Cascadia, Aurora, and Plasma. In total, the collection now boasts 100 plugins that include iZotope’s latest releases of Neutron 5, Nectar 4, RX 11 Standard and more, along with a selection of powerful effects and processing plug-ins from Native Instruments, Plugin Alliance and Brainworx.
