Neyrinck’s V-Control Pro software originally offered a way to control various DAWs from a tablet or smartphone, and over time has evolved to provide compatibility between a number of hardware control surfaces and software applications — allowing out-of-support Digidesign/Avid surfaces to be used with newer versions of Pro Tools, or other DAWs entirely, for example. The latest version, V-Control Pro 3.0, sets its sights on PreSonus’ FaderPort range, allowing them to offer extended functionality with Pro Tools.
With the update, users of FaderPort consoles will gain precise fader control over plug-in parameters in Pro Tools by selecting a track and pressing the PlugIns button. It also makes it possible to cycle through all insert slots (A-J), overcoming the standard A-E limit. Default layout maps are provided, and it is also possible for users to create their own custom maps.
Automation capabilities are also enhanced, with V-Control allowing the surface’s Select button colour to indicate the active automation mode, with blinking or solid illumination also reflecting the mode’s status. Volume and pan parameters can now be reset from the hardware by pressing Shift and tapping the corresponding channel fader, and a Cancel/OK command can be transmitted from the FaderPort’s Previous and Next buttons to avoid having to reach for the keyboard or mouse when creating Memory Locations from the controller.
Compatibility
V-Control Pro 3.0 is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or 11, and Macs running macOS 10.9 and above. A full list of compatible control surfaces can be found here.
