When we spoke to RYK Modular at SynthFest 2024, they gave us a sneak preview of an interesting new prototype quad-channel modulation module that was yet to be named. A few months on, the bit of kit in question is now known as the Envy Machine, and is available to purchase worldwide.
Each of the Envy Machine’s four channels can be set to one of five different operation modes: ADSR Envelope, AD Envelope, AD LFO, Random Voltage or Recordable Knob Voltage Control — the last feature allows users to animate the module’s parameters in order to create timed variations. All four channels are equipped with dedicated Mod inputs, so it’s possible to control any of the onboard parameters with external CV signals.
Mod inputs and channel outputs, meanwhile, all benefit from attenuverters that can be set to either bipolar or unipolar, and feature a continuously variable level control. There’s plenty control over the waveshape of the LFOs and envelopes, too, with each of them offering Log, Expo, Sin, Trapezoid and Square options.
The company say that the Envy Machine's four-channel design means that it makes a great companion to their Algo oscillator, which we reviewed in the October 2024 issue (print / web / app / replica / PDF editions).
