Free plug-in enhances perceived width & depth

SoliderSound S Doubler doubler voice instrument ensemble stereo field depth enhancer plug-in

S Doubler is the latest plug-in to be released by SoliderSound, a company set up by the team at Techivation to provide aspiring music makers with simple and effective audio tools.

The latest plug-in to join the company’s line-up offers a quick and easy way to enhance the perceived width and depth of vocal and instrument tracks. It can be used to create stereo effects from mono sound sources, introducing four voices that can be placed around the stereo field using a simple and intuitive interface.

The majority of the GUI is occupied by a semi-circular graphic that displays the input signal at the centre of a virtual space, with four dots representing the generated voices. A Spread parameter offers control of the overall stereo width of the resulting effect, whilst a Distance control governs the perceived proximity of the voices, promising to simulate a realistic sense of depth. The original signal can be mixed with the generated voices — the plug-in applies transient-based ducking to the extra voices when the dry signal is enabled — or can replace the input signal entirely.

Some additional controls are then provided to fine-tune the resulting effect. A Frequency Range slider makes it possible to limited the bandwidth of the generated signals, making it possible to concentrate on a specific frequency band, whilst Tone and Level controls offer a tilt EQ and volume control for the processed signal. There’s also a Mid-Side slider that sets the balance between the amount of processing applied to the Mid and Sides elements of the incoming signal.

S Doubler is supported on PCs running Windows 7 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.13 and above. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
