Sontronics launch Saturn 2

New version of best-selling microphone announced

Sontronics Saturn 2 multi-pattern large diaphragm condenser capacitor microphone omnidirectional cardioid subcardioid hypercardioid figure eight

Sontronics have announced the release of the Saturn 2, a new and updated version of their best-selling microphone that was discontinued in 2015. The latest incarnation retains the striking aesthetic of the original model, but features improvements to the circuitry as well as an expanded selection of polar patterns.

Polar pattern selection is now taken care of digitally, with an encoder on the front of the body allowing users to choose between the available options, with the selected pattern indicated by a blue LED below its symbol. The original five modes are provided (omni, subcardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid and figure-of-eight), whilst four new in-between patterns are also available, and are indicated by the presence of two LEDs when active. A switchable high-pass filter can be engaged at either 75 or 125 Hz, and -10 or -20 dB pad options are present.

The company say that the Saturn 2 delivers the smooth high-frequency response that they have become known for, as well as boasting high sensitivity along with exceptionally low self-noise. Described as an all-round workhorse, the microphone promises to provide mix-ready results on a wide range of sources from vocals and speech through to acoustic instruments and ensembles, whilst also excelling when being used to capture room ambience.

The Saturn 2 is designed, developed and hand-built in the UK, and as with all of Sontronics’ offerings, is covered by a lifetime warranty.
