Melbourne Instruments have teamed up with Bitwig to bring Bitwig Studio integration to the Roto-Control. Available now as a public beta, the second DAW integration for Melbourne’s newly introduced controller allows Bitwig Studio users to benefit from the Roto-Control’s touch-sensitive motorised knobs, high-res LCD displays and adaptive haptic control.
With the beta firmware version installed, selecting the Roto-Control’s Mix Mode will result in the colours and track names in a Bitwig Studio project instantly appearing on the controller’s displays. Those names and colours will update automatically when connected to an active Bitwig session, meaning that there's no need to manually save or edit labels in the device.
In Plugin Mode, plug-in parameters and labels are taken directly from Bitwig Studio with a single touch. Users will only need to learn plug-in parameters once, and it’s possible to select parameters to map directly from a third-party plug-in's GUI. Since all learned parameters are stored locally on the Roto-Control, the device will remember the mappings each time Bitwig Studio is opened — even when loading a different project file. Furthermore, all remote controls in Bitwig Studio are mapped automatically, including step parameters.
If you’re not familiar with the Roto-Control, it’s worth taking a look at our review in the May 2025 issue (print / web / app / replica / PDF editions).
Those who are attending Superbooth 2025 in Berlin can visit the Melbourne Instruments (H220) or Bitwig booths (Z105) to check out the Roto-Control integration for themselves.
