Telefunken have announced that they are reintroducing four Stereo Set kits in their popular Alchemy Series of large-diaphragm valve microphones. The TF29 Copperhead, TF39 Copperhead Deluxe, TF47 and TF51 Stereo Set microphone systems all bring together a matched pair of mics and feature a custom dual power supply along with a locking flight case.
Each set comprises a pair of Alchemy Series mics that have been matched based on both frequency response and gain — the company meticulously match the capsules, transformers and valves — a premium dual power supply, two M 803 Cables, two M 703 shock mounts, two M 782 stand mounts and a hard shell FC03S locking case. The M 901S power supply features a pair of nine-position variable polar pattern switches that provide each mic with six additional settings beyond the usual cardioid, hypercardioid and omnidirectional patterns.
Telefunken say that the power supplies are based on AKG’s vintage C12 design, but offer some technical improvements thanks to the use of modern components and circuit-design techniques. The improvements include the use of a slow-ramping filament voltage that aims to extend the life of the valves, as well as full regulation to ensure the microphone will operate correctly regardless of line-voltage variations or location.
Furthermore, each power supply is calibrated to the specific microphone system it’s paired with, and is ‘burned in’ to ensure optimum performance and operation. The regulation also means that the stereo power supplies can safely power one microphone at a time at correct operating voltages, if necessary.
