Toontrack’s staggering collection of EZKeys 2 expansions has grown once again, and the latest instalment delivers a one-of-a-kind instrument that’s been created using a mixture of sampling and synthesis.
Said to be “equal parts rhythm engine, hook-carrying melody machine and purveyor of hypnotic atmosphere”, Transistor Organ EKX has been inspired by some of the most iconic organs ever built. Designed as an homage to the instruments in general rather than any particular model, the collection brings together an array of sounds that cover everything from psychedelic rock to garage, pop to reggae and much more.
Toontrack say that they used some of the most defining tones as a starting point, and have crafted over 40 mix-ready presets that range from raw, organic sounds to layered and “creatively textured” patches. As will all EKX expansions, the collection comes complete with a unique MIDI library that includes a selection of sounds created specifically for each preset.
