Following on from the success of their L1 mic, which was released back in 2022, WeissKlang have announced the launch of its successor. The L1 Plus is said to deliver the same high-quality sound as the original, but increases its versatility thanks to switchable polar patterns.
The L1 Plus is built around a newly developed dual-diaphragm WMK-1D capsule, which is based on the proven design of the company’s original WMK-1. It promises to deliver a transparent, high-resolution sound with a modest presence boost between 10 and 11 kHz. It features transformerless circuity and employs hand-selected discrete components, and boasts some impressive technical specifications — self-noise is quoted as just 4dBA, while transient response has been measured at 14μs.
New for the Plus variant is a toggle switch that offers new omnidirectional and figure-of-eight polar patterns alongside the original’s cardioid, allowing the mic to tackle a far wider range of tasks than its predecessor. As with all of the company’s offerings, the L1 Plus is hand-built to a high standard in Germany. The company say that environmental impact was an important factor during development, and as a result, the mic comes supplied with an FSC-certified wooden case, and ships in recyclable packaging with all of its documentation provided digitally on a USB stick.
