Zoom have announced the release of the MS-80IR+ MultiStomp, the latest addition to their acclaimed series of multi-effects and modelling pedals. The compact unit boasts 16 faithful recreations of some of the world’s most sought-after amps, as well as seven of their own offerings and a selection of effects.
The onboard amp models are powered by Zoom’s Multi-Layer IR technology, which combines three impulse responses recorded at different volumes in an effort to recreate the sound and feel of playing through a real amp. The company have also carefully analysed the circuitry of the amps they’ve modelled, ensuring that the MultiStomp series reproduces their tone as accurately as possible. In addition to the onboard collection, the pedal supports user-imported impulse response files. A collection of five studio effects provide a range of natural-sounding reverbs, while another 12 effects offer built-in noise gating, EQ and delay sounds, and a set of four encoders allow fine-tuning of parameters directly from the pedal’s top panel.
It’s possible to save up to 80 memory patches that combine an amp model, studio sound and effect, and recall them while playing via a set of footswitches. Dual input and output connectors make it possible to run the pedal in stereo rigs, and there’s also an Output Splitter function that allows one signal featuring amps and impulse responses to be sent to a PA, and one without to feed an amplifier. The pedal boasts a built-in USB-C audio/MIDI interface for recording and controlling patch changes on other gear, and silent practise is possible thanks to a headphone output. There’s also an onboard tuner that supports a range of alternate and drop tunings.
