ADDAC System’s 300-series modules offer a variety of ways to add expressive control to a Eurorack rig, and already includes a muscle-sensing unit along with a Light to CV offering. The latest arrival, the ADDAC310 Pressure to CV, draws its inspiration from breath controllers, and offers an interesting new way to play modular gear.
Although it appears to follow the same approach as other wind and breath controllers, the ADDAC310 has one key difference: the pipe connected to the mouthpiece doesn’t provide any way for incoming air to escape, and its the resulting pressure buildup that’s used to generate the module’s CV output. Although this may seem a strange approach — especially to woodwind or brass players — it means that the pressure can be controlled over longer periods, without the user needing to pause for breath or learn circular breathing techniques.
The module includes a standard melodica-style pipe, which passes through an air filter before arriving at the front panel, where its signal is captured by a sensor and sent on to a pair of independent sections that each generate a CV signal. Each section is equipped with an identical set of parameters that allow users to define the attack, decay, offset and gain of the generated signal, with the final output presented on CV Out and Inverted CV out patch points.
A pair of Response controls allow the pressure curve to be continually adjusted between exponential and logarithmic, and it’s also possible to ‘freeze’ the signal at it’s current voltage either by holding a front-panel Hold button, or using a gate signal from an external source.
