Audio Sprockets have announced the availability of a software update that expands the capabilities of their renowned acoustic instrument preamp unit. With the latest version of its software installed, the ToneDexter II now includes a built-in reverb processor and offers a greater selection of source configurations.
Designed for a wide range of string instruments including guitars, violins, celli, upright basses, mandolins, banjos and more, the ToneDexter II employs Audio Sprockets’ innovative WaveMap technology to restore some of the acoustic tonal properties that can be missing in the direct sound from piezo pickup-equipped instruments. Its proved to be a popular addition to the company’s line-up, and has been treated to a steady stream of updates since it launched in place of the original ToneDexter in 2023.
With the release of the new V3.0 software, the pedal now features a new Effects page that provides access to a new reverb processor that offers a choice of six reverb types: two halls, two rooms and two plates. Sources and destinations can be selected from any available audio paths within the pedal, and although they are set globally by default, it’s possible for users to save their settings on a per-WaveMap basis, allowing specific settings to be saved for each of their instruments or presets.
In response to user requests, Audio Sprockets have developed an improved and simplified routing system that offers a total of 36 routing configurations in place of the original eight. The Main signal path can be switched between Instrument, Aux 1 and Aux 2 sources, while the secondary Blend path can be used to blend in the Main, Instrument, Aux 1, Aux 2 or Mic sources. In addition to blending two complete signal paths, users can also choose between two crossover modes that introduce high- or low-frequency content derived from the Main signal.
The company have also implemented a number of bug fixes and general improvements. A full list of the changes can be found on the Audio Sprockets website.
