Audio-Technica reveal drum mic packs for all

Drum mic kits unveiled for almost all conceivable setups

Audio-Technica have revealed four brand new drum mic kits at the AES Convention and all of them are very reasonably priced. Two ranges were bowed at the show: the Pro and Artist ranges. Both feature two mic bundles, comprising four and seven mics apiece. The PRO-DRUM4 and PRO-DRUM7 bundles are meant as affordable starter packs and comprise a PRO 25ax Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone for kick, a PRO 63 Cardioid Dynamic Microphone for snare, and two of the company’s new PRO 23 Cardioid Dynamic Microphone for toms, along with two drum mounts and a carrying case.

The PRO-DRUM7 bundle includes the same mics, plus a third PRO 63 for snare/toms and two AT2021 Cardioid Condenser Microphones for overhead/cymbals, along with a carrying case.

The more premium bundles, the ATM-DRUM4 and ATM-DRUM7 are aimed more at professionals and touring drummers. The ATM-DRUM4 includes one each of ATM250 and ATM650 Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphones for kick and snare, and two ATM450 Cardioid Condenser Microphones for overhead/cymbals, along with a carrying case. This, of course makes possible Recorderman and Glyn Johns drum recording techniques. The ATM-DRUM7 bundle includes features the same mics plus three ATM230 Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphones for toms, along with three drum mounts and a carrying case.

Prices range from $249 for the PRO-DRUM4 up to $799 for the Artist Series ATM-DRUM7. They are expected to be available this month.
