AudioScape release XL-305R spring reverb plug-in

Company's first plug-in emulates acclaimed hardware unit

AudioScape XL305R equally tempered spring reverb plug-in

AudioScape have teamed up with Canadian plug-in developer Kiive Audio to create their first ever software product, the XL‑305R Equally Tempered Stereo Reverb Plugin. Said to be a perfect solution for those working ‘in the box’ but seeking the sound of vintage analogue reverbs, the plug-in offers an accurate emulation of the company’s acclaimed XL-305R Spring Reverb.

Based on the XL-305 Spring Reverb released by Micmix in 1979, AudioScape’s hardware unit houses 12 springs with equally-tempered tuning, offering a unique sonic signature that the company liken to opening a piano lid and singing into its strings! They worked on the hardware version under the direction of the original designer for four years, delivering an updated and reimagined version of the original unit.

The new plug-in replicates both the functionality and sound of its hardware counterpart, even offering an option to switch the GUI to mimic the style of the original Micmix control panel. Each of the two channels are equipped with input levels controls and a wet/dry mix dial, followed by a four-band EQ section with ±10dB of adjustment per band. The channels can either be controlled separately, or linked to allow for precise settings on stereo material, and some helpful tools such as GUI scaling options, undo and redo functions and a built-in A/B comparison function have also been implemented.

Compatibility

XL-305R is supported on PCs running Windows 7 and above, and Macs (no minimum OS version requirement specified). VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.

Pricing & Availability

XL-305R is available now, and is currently (17 November 2023) being offered for an introductory price of $149, reduced from its full cost of $199.
