Following on from the recent release of their bx_aura reverb, Brainworx have announced the launch of a new flagship creative delay processor. Named bx_pulsar, the latest addition to the company’s line-up aims to offer a little more than your average delay plug-in, with its five distinct delay types complemented by an eight-step sequencer, a ducking compressor, diffusion networks and swing controls.
The new plug-in sports the same modern look as its reverb-focused sibling, and although it offers all of the controls you’d usually find in a delay processor, there are some more unusual additions. The most obvious is a built-in step sequencer that can be used to create complex rhythmic delays, but there’s also a Groove section dedicated to introducing subtle time-shifts, and a Ducker that helps to prevent more extreme settings ‘washing out’ the original, unprocessed signal.
As for the actual delay sounds, bx_pulsar includes the following selection of five algorithms, which are said to cover everything from pristine-sounding delays to otherworldly reverse echoes.
- Air: a clean, uncoloured sound for pristine reflections and delay diffusion.
- Circuit: Inspired by vintage BBD delays and classic guitar pedals, offering authentic analog grit.
- Magnetic: The beloved sound of tape, reels, and cassettes, with rich modulation and degraded textures.
- Reverse: a smooth reverse delay with added diffusion and compression for ethereal effects.
- Aether: a surreal and original delay designed to add sparkle, radiance, and diffusion.
Key Features
- Eight-Step Sequence Mode: Effortlessly craft complex rhythmic delay patterns without the time-consuming manual process.
- Ducking Compressor: Auto-side-chains to the dry signal so your delays sit perfectly in the mix.
- Swing & Offset Controls: Add groove and subtle timing shifts for enhanced musicality.
- Freeze & Clear Buffer: Creative options for flexible sound design with infinite delays.
Advanced Filters: Low- and high-cut filters, as well as low- and high-frequency dampening parameters for precise tonal sculpting of the delayed signal.
Compatibility
bx_pulsar is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or higher, and Macs running macOS 11 and above. VST2, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
Pricing & Availability
bx_pulsar is available now, and is being offered at an introductory price of $49.99 until 30 October 2025, when it will increase to its full cost of $69. Users of other Brainworx products are eligible for a crossgrade price of $39.99.
