The Engine Room calls all sound artists for international competition

SOS joins sponsors of international sound art competition

Sound On Sound are pleased to be sponsoring The Engine Room's new international sound art competition for emerging sound artists.

The competition invites the submission of new sound art — including audio and audio-visual pieces, interactive works, installations and graphic scores — by 15 February 2015.

Submitted entries will be judged by a panel of experts including electroacoustic composer Professor Simon Emmerson and established artists, composers and performers, Ray Lee and Mira Calix.

Selected works will be eligible for a number of prizes and may also be invited to exhibit at an accompanying exhibition at Morley Gallery, London, from 12 May – 12 June 2015. The exhibition will include a specially commissioned work by established sound artist Janek Schaefer.

The Engine Room is an initiative by Morley College, London, continuing Morley’s legacy as a leading centre for experimental music and sound art. The Engine Room International Sound Art Competition & Exhibition forms part of the College’s 125th anniversary celebrations, taking place throughout 2014/15.  It is kindly sponsored by TC Electronic, Tannoy, MogamiHBB Communications and Sound On Sound.

Ela Piotrowska, Principal of Morley College says: “We are very proud of our important role in providing opportunities, for people from all backgrounds, to engage in the creative and performing arts. The Scratch Orchestra was first formed at Morley in the 1970s, and the College counts Cornelius Cardew, Howard Skempton and Michael Parsons among its former staff and students. The Engine Room continues the College’s association with experimental music and sound art, and we are very pleased to be launching this international competition in this, our 125th year.”

The Engine Room: International Sound Art Competition & Exhibition 2015 is open for entries until 15 February 2015. For further information and to enter visit www.engineroomlondon.org
