“Great-sounding mixes in minutes”

Tim Exile Finalist automatic mixing plug-in

Tim Exile is well known for his innovative software offerings, and the latest addition to his range claims to be capable of putting together a release-ready mix in just a few minutes. Built in Native Instruments’ Reaktor, Finalist relies on cutting-edge audio analysis and DSP to carry out automatic mixing, and presents users with a simple set of controls to influence the results.

Said to be perfect for when you don’t have the time, skills or budget to carry out a traditional mix, the plug-in is said to be capable of producing high-quality results without the need for any technical knowledge. Its engine analyses incoming signals — it’s capable of handling up to 32 stems — before applying a range of processes that include analogue emulation, Mid-Side processing, multiband dynamics, transient shaping, clippers, limiters and more. a selection of 40 presets cover a wide range of musical genres, while Strength and Gain controls offer some basic hands-on control over the key elements of a mix.

Unlike many similar tools, Finalist runs locally on the user’s computer, and doesn’t rely on any cloud-based processing. As a result, it’s capable of delivering mixes instantly, and makes it possible to audition parameter changes in real time. And as it’s a perpetually licensed product, there’s no ongoing subscription fee, and no limit to how many mixes the software is able to produce.
