Fors introduce Pivot FM soft synth

Launched alongside free Pivot-Lite version

Fors Pivot FM software synthesizer

Software instrument innovators Fors have announced the launch of their latest creation, Pivot. The result of years of research and development and inspired by the company’s love of FM synthesis, the new addition to the company’s range promises to deliver just the right balance of flexibility and simplicity.

Pivot is a three-operator FM synth that is capable of producing complex timbres while still being quick and easy to program. Rather than making users choose between a range of pre-defined algorithms, it instead makes it possible to continuously route the top modulator's output between the other pair, while a modulation matrix allow the instruments two LFOs and ADSR envelopes to be routed to up to six destinations at once. Tonal shaping is taken care of by a four-pole resonant morphing filter that mixes low-, band- and high-pass modes.

Alongside the main release, Fors have also introduced Pivot-Lite, a stripped-back version of the instrument that features a pair of operators and a single morphing filter. The company say that its simpler structure serves as an ideal way for users to give FM synthesis a try, while still offering nearly all of the bells and whistles found in its larger sibling — and the best part is that it’s free!

Compatibility

Pivot is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above / Linux Ubuntu 22 and later, and Macs running macOS 10.13 or higher. VST3, AU and CLAP plug-in versions are available.

Pricing & Availability

Pivot is available now, priced at $39, and is included in the company’s 25% Summer Sale until 20 July 2025.
