Origin Effects have announced the launch of the third pedal in their Halcyon series, this time setting their sights on the sound of Marshall’s classic Bluesbreaker pedal.
The Halcyon Blue Overdrive relies on the same proprietary Adaptive Circuitry used in the range’s Green and Gold offerings, and promises to capture the magic of the effect that inspired it as well as offering a new level of playability and boutique-style modded tones.
The new unit revolves around a soft-clipping overdrive circuit that has been designed to deliver the prominent midrange tones that the Bluesbreaker is renowned for, and is capable of producing subtle, edge-of-breakup tones as well as being pushed into more obvious distortion, all without losing clarity. Thanks to the company’s unique Adaptive Circuitry, the pedal’s tone changes in response to a guitar’s volume level and playing dynamics, with the distinct midrange boost fading away as the playing level decreases.
Halcyon Blue Overdrive also comes equipped with a choice of two voicing modes: BB and MOD. The first offers an accurate recreation of the Bluesbreaker, while the second introduces some additional gain and an alternative clipping character that results in an increased low-mid response that the company say is great for adding some additional weight to single-coil-equipped guitars. Finally, a Dry control increases the tonal range even further by allowing users to blend in the unprocessed signal.
