Following on from the success of their debut expansion packs for Audiomodern’s free MPE-enabled Soundbox software sampler, Sonora Cinematic have announced the launch of a new free pack filled with sounds that “shimmer with tension, mystery and wonder”.
The company say that Drift was born from an ambitious orchestral recording session for a forthcoming virtual instrument. It explores a range of flutter-tongue woodwind articulations, manipulating their rich, unpredictable textures with various experimental processing and sound-design techniques. The result is an intriguing palette of sounds that range from shimmering pads and ghostly harmonics to tense, whispering winds and more.
The pack’s evolving textures and tonal ambiguity are said to make it ideal for adding atmosphere, depth and emotion to any cinematic production — whether scoring an unsettling dream sequence, a mysterious forest scene or a moment of quiet revelation. It’s not limited to scoring duties, though, Drift also promises to thrive in ambient and downtempo music, experimental electronica, and even genres like dream pop, lo-fi and deep techno.
Compatibility
Drift runs in the free Soundbox player, which is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.14 and above. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.
