The follow-up release for Sonora Cinematic’s Pure Nylon has arrived, and becomes the latest addition to the company’s series of instruments for Audiomodern’s MPE-capable Soundbox software. In contrast to Pure Nylon, which was designed with warmth and intimacy in mind, Pure Steel is said to sound “bright, crispy and resonant”, capturing the unmistakable sound of a steel-string acoustic guitar.
Pure Steel String focuses its attention on four main articulations: Dynamic Plucked, Dynamic Picked, Harmonics and Mod-Wheel Controlled Tremolo. Each articulation has been crafted with dynamic performance in mind, offering a natural and organic playing experience, and thanks to Soundbox’s MPE capabilities, the instrument is said to respond beautifully to MPE controllers and deliver a “wonderfully natural” vibrato.
Similarly to its recently released counterpart, Pure Steel String includes a collection of creative tools for sound design as well as natural-sounding acoustic samples. The extras include expressive improvisations that are full of character and musicality, a mod-wheel-controlled patch that layers in fifth and octave arpeggios, vector-controlled patches for creating evolving, ethereal textures, creative sequences and more.
Compatibility
Pure Steel String requires Audiomodern Soundbox v1.0.7 or later, which is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.14 and higher. VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.

Pure Steel String is available now, and is currently (6 March 2026) being offered at an introductory price of £12 including VAT (reduced from £18).
