Black Rooster Audio release VWB-1X

Vintage-inspired channel strip joins line-up

Black Rooster Audio VWB-1X Vintage Mixing Workbench channel strip plug-in

Black Rooster Audio’s latest plug-in provides an all-in-one mixing tool inspired by classic analogue consoles. VWB-1X, or Vintage Mixing Workbench, presents users with a channel strip that offers EQ, compression and saturation, and has been designed for producers, engineers and sound designers “who demand vintage tone with modern workflow”.

The signal chain is headed up by variable low- and high-pass filters, which are followed by two dedicated EQ sections that are based on classic Pultec designs. The first houses a two-band midrange EQ inspired by the MEQ-5, while the second offers Black Rooster’s take on the iconic EQP-1A. Next up is a Tube Compressor section that features a mix control for built-in parallel compression, along with a switch that allows it to be placed either before or after the plug-in’s EQ sections.

While the plug-in’s processing sections have been designed to replicate the sound of sought-after vintage hardware, its overall design is a little more modern. As well as being able to re-order the EQ and compressor modules, VWB-1X allows users to apply processing either in stereo or Mid-Side, as well as featuring a master mix control that allows the entire plug-in to be used in parallel.

Compatibility

VWB-1X is supported on PCs running Windows 7 or higher, and Macs running macOS 10.10 and above. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available.

Pricing & Availability

VWB-1X is available now, and is currently (16 March 2026) being offered at an introductory price of $39£37.42, reduced from its full cost of $79£75. Prices include VAT.
