Black Rooster Audio have revealed their latest plug-in, the GA-GT2 guitar preamp simulator. Inspired by Tech 21’s classic SansAmp GT2 unit, a pedal known for its wide variety of tonal options, the GA-GT2 promises to deliver everything from subtle colouration to modern overdriven tones. Black Rooster Audio say that in addition to its use on guitar and bass parts, the plug-in's versatility makes it a great choice for processing sources such as vocals or drums.
Three different modes are provided: Clean, Hi Gain, and Hot-Wired, each offering their own unique tone and character. The company say that their component-based circuit simulation means that the plug-in authentically captures the sound and behaviour of the original device, including the op-amp clipping stages which were initially designed to simulate valve distortion.
GA-GT2’s simple GUI features a preamp section which offers Level, Treble, Bass, and Drive parameters, along with Power (bypass) and Phase switches. As with the original unit, the EQ controls feature Baxandall-style shelves. A switchable Cab Sim section then offers three different amplifier options: Cali, British, and Tweed, along with Off Axis, Centre, and Classic virtual microphone positions. Finally, a Mix knob is present to provide users with built-in parallel processing capabilities.
Compatibility
GA-GT2 is supported on PCs running Windows 7 and higher, and Macs running macOS X 10.9 and above. Apple Silicon processors are also natively supported. AAX Native, VST, and AU formats are available.
