Universal Audio have announced the launch of a new plug-in which they say offers the first and only end-to-end emulation of Dolby’s famed multiband ‘compansion’ processor. A‑Type Multiband Dynamic Enhancer promises to unlock the secret effect used by countless engineers and producers, providing users with a one-stop solution for crafting up-front vocal sounds.
Designed exclusively for Apollo interfaces and UAD hardware, the new plug-in includes the iconic Air, Excite, and Expand modes responsible for the sounds heard on albums by legendary acts such as Queen, AC/DC, Journey and Fleetwood Mac. Crush and Gated modes, meanwhile, provide some heavy-handed compression effects, while a Circuit Mods panel allows users to adjust the underlying processing and achieve far more than was possible with the original hardware.
Key Features
Here’s what Universal Audio have to say about the latest addition:
- Add iconic Air, Excite, and Expand effects used on vocal recordings by Queen, Stevie Wonder, The Cars, Fleetwood Mac and more.
- Get the only end-to-end A-Type emulation, built for flawless latency-free tracking and mixing with Apollo interfaces.
- Engage Crush and Gated modes to get gritty analogue textures or classic 1980s gated effects on drums and instruments.
- Go far beyond the original hardware with the Circuit Mods panel, which offers everything from custom expansion to transient shaping, subharmonic effects and more.
Compatibility
A-Type Multiband Dynamic Enhancer is supported on PCs running Windows 10 or above, and Macs running macOS 10.15 and higher. VST, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available. It relies on the DSP found in UA’s Apollo interfaces and UAD hardware accelerators, and so is not available as a native plug-in.
Pricing & Availability
A-Type Multiband Dynamic Enhancer is available now, priced at $199.
