Cloudvocal have announced the launch of a new instrument mic designed for professional live performers and engineers. The SonoFlex promises to bring studio-grade audio to the stage, and features an innovative Rotary Lock mounting system along with an adaptive circuit design that allows for seamless switching between wired and wireless setups.
The mic is built around a premium cardioid capacitor capsule that’s capable of withstanding SPLs of up to 145dB, making it suitable for everything from strings to wind and brass instruments, while the cardioid pattern helps to prevent bleed from other sources on loud stages. An onboard switch toggles between two- and three-wire modes, with the former offering compatibility with wireless transmitters — a selection of adapter cables for the likes of Shure, Sennheiser and AKG systems are available, and SonoFlex also offer their own SP-10 system. The latter allows the mic to be connected to a standard XLR mic input and accept 48V phantom power. When using the three-wire mode, the mic’s output impedance is lowered to 29Ω with the aim of reducing signal degradation over long cable runs.
Of course, sounding good will only get a mic so far, and when it comes to live use, ease of setup and durability are equally crucial. To that end, Cloudvocal have developed the Rotary Lock mounting system. The system allows the mic to be ‘snapped’ into place on its mounting plate with just a simple twisting motion, making possible to quickly swap the mic between different instruments and ensure its held firmly in place with little effort. The company offer an array of mounts, both for specific instruments and universal. As for durability, the SonoFlex features a slow-recovery gooseneck section that provides precise, reliable placement, and comes padded with vibration damping materials; there’s also an elastic shockmount system designed to isolate the capsule from mechanical noise.
The SonoFlex can be purchased individually, and will come supplied with the user’s mount of choice, an XLR adapter and a 3.5mm wireless adapter cable. a Touring Kit package is also available, which bundles together three XLR adapters, and allows users to select six mounts and adapters of their choice.
