Sennheiser have revealed that the MD 9235, a cardioid mic head designed to pair up with their handheld wireless systems, is now officially back in production. The company say that they’ve had repeated requests from engineers to reintroduce the capsule since it was discontinued a few years ago, and so they have obliged!
As with the original version, the MD 9235 has been designed to accurately capture vocals while rejecting ambient noise from the sides and rear. It employs a lightweight aluminium-copper coil that moves more quickly than conventional designs, a choice which Sennheiser say allows the capsule to deliver incredible detail and transparency even in the most challenging environments.

“When the MM 435 mic head and the MM 445 high-rejection head succeeded the MD 9235 in 2020, they quickly built their own fanbase. But we still had enquiries for the MD 9235 coming in, even after years had passed since its discontinuation. So we sat together with our development and manufacturing engineers and examined how we could revive the 9235. We had samples thoroughly tested by several touring sound engineers and they were thrilled to have the MD 9235 back.” - Sebastian Schmitz, Product Manager, Sennheiser
