Wiltone Productions have announced the release of Music Row Piano, a deeply sampled Yamaha C7 piano library that’s been created for Native Instruments’ Kontakt platform. It’s been developed specifically for modern country, Americana, CCM (Contemporary Christian Music) and contemporary pop productions, but will apparently be equally well suited to film and television scoring duties.
The company say that their goal with the release was to create a virtual studio grand that sits naturally in modern productions without requiring extensive processing. Recorded in a professional Nashville studio and voiced from the perspective of a working session keyboardist, the sample library aims to deliver a mix-ready tone, and focuses on realism and immediacy rather than concert hall presentation.
There are seven velocity layers along with an ultra-quiet hammer movement layer, and there are three round robins for each layer. The realism is enhanced further by pedal-up and pedal-down samples, as well as a set of dedicated damper release samples. A choice of three microphone positions are provided, and each position includes sampled noise-floor ambience; users are also provided with control over mechanical and pedal noise, allowing the instrument to cover everything from polished studio tones, to “intimate realism”.
