Sonora Cinematic have released Aethervox, a new cinematic vocal instrument designed for Audiomodern’s free Soundbox sampler platform. Drawing inspiration from the developer’s Kontakt-based vocal libraries Aria Vocalscapes and Emma Legato (reviewed in SOS June 2024 and June 2025 respectively), Aethervox delivers atmospheric vocal textures tailored for film scoring, game audio, ambient music and experimental sound design.
The library offers 15 presets built around dreamlike hums, ethereal “ahhs” with vibrato and layered vocal combinations. Each preset is designed to balance intimacy and atmosphere, suitable for both orchestral arrangements and more minimal ambient work. Aethervox also includes non-tempo-synced improvisations over suspended chords, intended for scenes that demand tension, mystery or drifting beauty.
Soundbox’s movement feature enables automatic transitions between vocal layers for continuously evolving textures, while users can disable it for manual blending and greater performance control. Subtle details such as shifting hums, sibilant effects and soaring phrases add further depth to the library’s sound palette.
Aethervox requires Audiomodern’s Soundbox sampler, which is available to download for free for Mac, Windows and iOS from the Audiomodern website.
