House of Rock goes on sale

The world’s finest private recording studio?

Studio within the 'House of Rock'House of Rock studioThere is a mansion in Santa Monica that they call the ‘House of Rock’. Over the last year, there has been a project bubbling away inside this Tudor-Revival house with the aim of creating the finest private recording studio in the world, and now, this highly desirable and completely restored property is up for sale.

Involved from the early stages of the studio's design were Vintage King, who provided an incredible mix of modern and classic equipment for the space. Racks are filled with vintage outboard gear such as a UREI 1176, Teletronix LA-2A and Dbx 160s as well as many boutique units. Giving the impression that money was no object in this endeavor, Vintage King also put together a sixty-module overhead rack of the most highly sought after 500-series modules. This includes modules from the likes of Little Labs, Grace Design, Chandler Limited, Tonelux, A-Designs, Inward Connections, Burl, and many others.

At the heart of the studio is the SSL Duality Pro-Station, an automated console but with a winged design, the first of its kind from Solid State Logic. This unusual design lets the user operate the DAW (Avid Pro Tools in this case) from a central section of the console, flanked by faders.

Blue, who supplied microphones for the studio, see this project as being at “the forefront of the music industry’s evolution towards a more personalized environment, where artists can work in the privacy of their own home at any time of the day or night and have cutting edge technology at their fingertips.”

The acoustic design was undertaken by JSX Audio and multi-Grammy winning producer Jack Joseph Puig. To take full advantage of this and the various other acoustic spaces within the house, there are tie-lines in many rooms that link to the studio, including the master bathroom.

If you’re looking for an up-market home studio, you’ll be pleased to know that the ‘House of Rock’ is listed on realtor The Agency's website for only $22 million.
