There’s an overwhelming amount of EQ plug-ins available these days, but the majority of them can be divided into two categories: those that emulate praised and sought-after analogue designs, and those that are unapologetically digital. The latest addition to the Softube range, though, aims to offer the best of both worlds, and does so with a rather interesting approach.
Simply named Equalizer, the new plug-in comes equipped with all the features you’d expect of a modern software EQ — a large analyser display with overlaid draggable EQ curves, dynamic bands, Mid-Side operation and so on — but with an extra trick up its sleeve. Along with the ultra-modern layout, Equalizer is equipped with an additional plug-in slot that’s capable of hosting a variety of Softube’s vintage-inspired EQ processors.
With the slot occupied by one of the company’s modelled offerings, Equalizer is capable of providing the tonal character associated with classic analogue designs, but without sacrificing the level of control and functionality offered by modern software EQs.
