Softube have announced that their VCA Compressor plug-in will be available as a free download until 31 March 2024.
Released in 2023, the plug-in provides users with a meticulous model of an early DBX 160, an iconic design famed for its ‘punchy’ sound. As is often the case with plug-in emulations, Softube have taken the opportunity to include some extra features that were not present in the original hardware. A side-chain filter is joined by a wet/dry balance control that allows for built-in parallel compression, along with a variable Output Drive control. There’s also support for the company’s Extended Features mode, which allows users to swap out the virtual VU meters and vintage-inspired GUI for modern metering and a new interface design.

Popular Demand
The offer has proved to be incredibly popular, with the traffic taking its toll on Softube’s website and leaving some users struggling to obtain their free copy. The company are aware of the issues, and are advising those who are still having difficulties to wait until the initial rush calms down!
Compatibility
VCA Compressor is supported on PCs running Windows 10 and above, and Macs running macOS 12 or higher. VST, VST3, AU and AAX plug-in versions are available. Authorisation is carried out via PACE’s iLok system, although no physical dongle is required.
