Built on a newly developed engine and interface, UJAM’s latest instrument has been designed to create Latin-inspired percussion parts for any production. Based on the technology behind the company’s Virtual Drummer series, Groovemate Latigo features a phrase-based engine that allows users to trigger authentic-sounding percussion performances while maintaining control over their timing, feel and arrangement.
Bringing together instruments such as congas, shakers, maracas, tambourines and claves, the new arrival to the UJAM line-up provides songwriters and producers with a cohesive Latin percussion setup that’s been designed to complement live drum tracks and electronic beats. The instrument adds rhythmic movement and detail to productions by layering expressive percussion performances on top of existing grooves, and presents users with a comprehensive set of tools for fine-tuning the results.
The percussion rig was recorded with a single performer covering a wide range of articulations, ensuring the library captures the natural interaction between instruments and delivers a consistent mix balance. Overhead and room microphones capture the full sound of the performance space, and feed into a Depth control that makes it possible to ‘move’ the percussion parts between the front and back of the virtual stage.

“Percussion is the icing on the cake for every drum performance — whether in indie, pop, rock or electronic styles. It can add dynamics and emotion and help set the tone and energy. I’d be hard-pressed to find drum tracks of mine that I can’t make sound more live-like and emotionally engaging with Groovemate LATIGO.” - Nate Williams (Jamiroquai, Steve Winwood), Performer on Groovemate Latigo
