Berlin-based software developers UJAM have announced that Retro Finisher, their vintage-inspired effects plug-in, is being offered as a free download until 7 December 2025.
Powered by the company’s Finisher engine, the plug-in has been designed to kit users out with a simple and intuitive way to treat their tracks to some old-school colouration and modulation effects. It combines some analogue-style filters with a collection of early digital delay recreations, spring and plate reverbs, choruses and phasers, and also packs in some emulated valve distortion and tape saturation. Everything comes housed in a simple interface that the company say presents users with virtually no learning curve, offering a quick and easy alternative to juggling multiple plug-ins.
Key Features
- Tape Aesthetics: Saturation, wow and flutter, hiss, dropouts, echo.
- Vinyl Character: Crackle, rumble, stylus noise, lo-fi instability.
- Analogue Gear Colouration: Tube saturation, spring and plate reverb, analogue delay.
- Early Digital Artefacts: Bit-crushing, sample-rate reduction, early digital chorus and reverb.
- Classic Modulation: Phasing, flanging, tremolo, vibrato, rotary speaker effects.
- Noise & Degradation: Noise layers, ambient hum, environmental patina.
“Vintage hardware gear is hard to come by and harder to use. There are software emulations, but they can be pricey. So for a limited time, we‘re giving musicians an opportunity to explore vintage sounds with this gift that sounds amazing with virtually zero learning curve, and a chance to get to know UJAM along the way.” - Wolfram Knelangen, COO, UJAM
